One newer option to watch

The Rushwood Senior Living is a new Wichita community offering independent living, assisted living and memory care. Its developers/operators, Arrow Senior Living and O'Reilly Development, describe themselves as locally owned and operated.

Because it's new, it has much less long-term resident history than places such as McCrite or The Regent. On the other hand, its current resident/family comments are quite positive.

What I'd pay particular attention to

For a family trying to distinguish “people genuinely like living here” from marketing, I'd ask each community for:

1. The last 12 months of resident/family satisfaction surveys, if they conduct them.
2. Names of 3–5 current independent-living residents willing to talk privately.
3. The percentage of independent-living residents who have stayed 3+ years.
4. The current staff turnover rate.
5. A complete sample monthly bill—including meals, housekeeping, transportation, utilities and annual increases.
6. What happens if the resident later needs assisted living or memory care.
7. Whether ownership has changed in the past five years.

That last point is especially important: “family-owned” and “locally owned” are useful distinctions from national chains, but they don't by themselves establish quality or resident satisfaction.
